World Bank and Nigeria mobilize $1.2bn for climate resilience

The World Bank and the Nigerian Federal Government are implementing 20 Strategic Catchment Management Plans (SCMPs) across 19 northern states and the Federal Capital Territory. This initiative aims to combat environmental degradation, strengthen climate resilience, and secure water resources.

To support these efforts, the World Bank has approved an additional $500 million financing package for the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) programme. This brings the total funding for the programme to approximately $1.2 billion. The project is designed to promote integrated landscape management across state and political boundaries, addressing interconnected hydrological and environmental systems.
