World Bank approves $60 million for Congo poultry and aquaculture
The World Bank Group has approved $60 million in financing to enhance the competitiveness and resilience of the poultry and aquaculture value chains in the Republic of Congo. The initiative aims to boost local food production, improve nutrition security, and foster economic diversification.
The program targets several key constraints affecting domestic output, including the high cost and limited availability of essential inputs such as animal feed, fingerlings, and day-old chicks. To address these issues, the project will support the supply of quality inputs and provide technical training and assistance to farmers, workers, and businesses within the sector.
Infrastructure improvements are also a priority, with funding allocated to develop climate-resilient facilities within selected Protected Agricultural Zones. Additionally, the project seeks to reform the policy and regulatory environment to encourage private sector participation and improve access to finance for farmers and private investors. This expansion is expected to create jobs across various roles, including processors, traders, and veterinary service providers, with a particular focus on empowering women and young people.
