World Bank disbursement rate in Dominican Republic rises to 8.64%

The World Bank's disbursement rate for its project portfolio in the Dominican Republic increased to 8.64% at the close of fiscal year 2026, up from 3.30% in the previous year. This represents a 5.34 percentage point increase on a net commitment portfolio totaling US$1,492.3 million.

Minister of Finance and Economy Magín Díaz attributed the improvement to increased monitoring of executing units, portfolio sanitation, and partial cancellations of delayed financing. Despite the progress, the absolute figure remains low, meaning only a small fraction of total commitments has been effectively utilized by responsible entities.

The active portfolio includes 12 operations totaling approximately US$1,488 million. About 80% of planned disbursements are concentrated in four priority areas: water sector modernization, electrical distribution strengthening, social protection resilience, and housing improvements. These projects aim to address climate resilience and water management, which the World Bank identifies as central priorities for the country.
