World Bank reviews literacy initiatives in Argentina's Chaco and Corrientes provinces

A World Bank delegation visited the Argentine provinces of Chaco and Corrientes to assess recent literacy programmes. In Resistencia, Chaco, the team met Governor Leandro Zdero and Education Minister Sofía Naidenoff, toured primary schools and observed the "Aprendo Leyendo" plan, noting that first‑grade reading speed rose from 16 to 36 words per minute. Delegates, including Jaime Saavedra and economist Igor Keyfets, highlighted evidence‑based teaching methods, material provision and continuous teacher support as key factors.

In Corrientes, the delegation was received by Education Minister Ana Miño, who showcased the province’s integrated approach of ongoing teacher training, locally developed textbooks and digital tools. Saavedra called Corrientes a model for other provinces, emphasizing the combination of technology with human instruction. Both visits aimed to shape the provinces’ literacy agendas through 2027.
