World Bank backs Senegal with 340 billion CFA financing package
World Bank Vice‑President Ousmane Diagana visited Senegal in August 2026 and met President Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye. The institution reaffirmed direct budget support to the Senegalese state and expanded results‑based financing, signalling confidence in the country’s reform agenda.
A financing envelope of 340 billion CFA (about $580 million) was announced for projects in agriculture, transport and programmes that strengthen the resilience of youth and women. The partnership prioritises lowering electricity costs, accelerating the transition to solar power, a resilience programme for agriculture to bolster food sovereignty, and measures to improve the business climate, modernise public finances and strengthen governance. The two sides also discussed a ten‑year strategic partnership framework aligned with Senegal’s Vision 2050 development plan.
