World Buffalo Congress focuses on digital innovation and bureaucracy reduction
The World Buffalo Congress in Sorrento concluded with a focus on the future of the buffalo dairy supply chain, specifically regarding Mozzarella di Bufala Campana DOP. Key discussions centered on the need to reduce excessive bureaucracy and bridge the digital divide between northern and southern Italy.
A report by the Smart AgriFood Observatory of the Politecnico di Milano highlighted that the sector faces rising costs, complex administrative requirements, and unequal access to digital technologies. Research cited by Confagricoltura indicates that an average livestock company may have to manage up to 20 mandatory registers and over 2,000 annual entries, increasing the risk of errors and sanctions.
In a related development regarding agricultural technology, the Edmund Mach Foundation, supported by the German agency GIZ, hosted workshops on digital agriculture and traceability. This initiative, part of the CLIMB project, aims to support Eastern Partnership countries in adopting digital tools and quality management systems aligned with European standards through international cooperation and knowledge transfer.
