World Bullying Prevention Day initiatives focus on education and awareness
Various institutions are launching initiatives to mark World Bullying Prevention Day, focusing on education, technology, and parental awareness. In Brazil, the Ministry of Education (MEC) released an educational glossary to help educators identify and respond to various forms of violence, including cyberbullying, racism, and LGBTfobia. Additionally, the Public Prosecutor's Office of Paraná is conducting a campaign in state public schools to promote empathy and respect among students.
Educational institutions are also adopting technological approaches. Colégio Luterano in São Paulo utilized AI-developed digital games to teach students about digital citizenship and empathy. In Portugal, the Portuguese Order of Psychologists (OPP) released a campaign video challenging parents to recognize if their own children might be engaging in bullying behaviors, emphasizing the importance of early intervention to prevent long-term psychological harm.
On a legislative level, discussions in Rio de Janeiro include proposals to include bullying and cyberbullying prevention in the city's official calendar, a move prompted by the need to address the rise of intimidation in both physical and virtual environments.
