World Cleanup Day event in Hulhumalé collects 282kg of waste

As part of the World Cleanup Day 2026 initiative organized by ‘Let’s Do It World’, a large-scale cleaning campaign was held in the open areas of Hulhumalé. The event, tagged with ‘#Saafumaadhu’, saw participation from over 120 individuals, including youth groups, environmental NGOs, and local citizens.

During the activity, a total of 282.67 kilograms of waste was collected and categorized. This included 158.72 kilograms of general waste, 92.17 kilograms of recyclable plastic, and 31.78 kilograms of aluminum. An audit of the collected materials identified 3,522 individual plastic items.

The campaign was supported by several organizations, including the Villa College Student Association, MNU SU ‘Abis’, Banakals, GreenRaaajje, and Repal, with additional assistance from BanyanTree, Dhava Ihuru, Paley Maldives, the Scout Association, and Let’s Do It Maldives.
