World Cleanup Day mobilizes volunteers in the Netherlands and Belgium

Volunteers participated in World Cleanup Day activities across various locations, including Amstelveen in the Netherlands and Liège in Belgium, to collect litter and raise awareness about waste pollution.

In Amstelveen, local aldermen Paul Slettenhaar and Lennart de Looze joined dozens of volunteers to clear waste from streets, parks, and public spaces. The initiative aimed to address the approximately 50 million kilograms of litter that ends up on streets or in green spaces in the Netherlands annually.

In Liège, more than 300 volunteers mobilized to clean the banks of the Meuse and Ourthe rivers, collecting 714 kilograms of waste. The River Cleanup association also hosted prevention activities, such as workshops on repairing clothes and making toothpaste, to promote waste reduction. Similar actions were reported in Antwerp and Brussels, contributing to a global movement involving over 160 countries.
