Kaspersky issues AI‑risk warning for World Cup fans
Kaspersky warned that the surge in generative artificial‑intelligence tools used by FIFA World Cup supporters creates multiple security and privacy threats. The company highlighted that many AI platforms require users to upload personal photos, link social media accounts or provide email addresses, exposing personal data that can be harvested for deep‑fake creation, targeted phishing, or identity theft. It also noted that cybercriminals are deploying AI‑generated fake match videos, counterfeit official pages and fraudulent betting predictions to lure fans into scams and malware downloads. During the tournament’s final stages, the risk intensifies as AI can quickly produce convincing phishing sites, fake promotions and deceptive betting offers in several languages. Kaspersky experts, including web‑content analyst Anna Larkina and Lead Security Researcher Fabio Assolini, urged fans to use reputable AI services, limit the personal information they share, keep security software up to date, verify links before clicking, and treat AI‑based predictions as entertainment rather than reliable advice. The advice aims to protect millions of global fans from data breaches, financial loss and misinformation as the World Cup generates heightened online activity.
