The opening ceremony at Mexico's Estadio Azteca on Thursday marked the start of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, preceding the Mexico‑South Africa match. The show blended Mexican cultural symbols with contemporary entertainment, featuring multilingual greetings in Spanish, English and Mayan dialects.
Performers included Maná, Danny Ocean, Belinda, Los Ángeles Azules, J Balvin with Ryan Castro and Shakira with Burna Boy. Belinda wore Levi’s 578 denim trousers hand‑decorated with over 80,000 Swarovski crystals, paired with Millenia jewelry. Shakira closed the event with the tournament anthem "Dai Dai". The ceremony highlighted Mexico's role as host alongside the United States and Canada.
