World Cup 2026 Public Viewing Guidelines for Austrian and German Municipalities
Municipalities hosting public viewings of the 2026 FIFA World Cup must adhere to a set of regulations. In Austria, any commercial event—where admission is charged, sponsors are involved, or food and drink are sold—requires a FIFA licence processed through the ORF, alongside local permits for safety, fire protection and traffic. The use of FIFA logos or branding is prohibited, and the broadcast signal must be shown without added graphics or advertising. A "clean area" of three metres around screens must remain free of non‑official advertising.
In Germany, the federal government has granted temporary noise‑protection exemptions for matches that start after 22:00, allowing outdoor screenings into the night. Individual towns decide on venues and may grant special permits; examples include a 2,500‑seat arena in Bad Säckingen, indoor halls in Friedrichshafen, and open‑air sites in Konstanz and Villingen‑Schwenningen. Organisers must still comply with local safety and licensing rules while taking advantage of the extended broadcasting windows.
