World Cup fans face streaming scams and sleep‑deprivation hazards

Security researchers identified more than 40 fraudulent websites that masquerade as official World Cup streams. The sites use identical designs, source code and ad networks to lure fans seeking free HD video. Clicking the “Watch Live” buttons triggers hidden scripts that harvest personal data, install malware, generate ad‑fraud clicks and display fake virus warnings. Experts advise users to rely on licensed broadcasters or trusted VPN services to avoid these threats.

At the same time, fans coping with match times that fall in the middle of the night report severe sleep disruption, excessive snacking and weight gain. The relentless schedule forces many to stay up for hours, leading to fatigue, reduced work performance and a temporary increase in body‑mass. The combination of health strain and cyber risk highlights the broader challenges of following the tournament from abroad.
