World Day for Decent Work emphasizes labor rights and quality

The World Day for Decent Work, observed on October 7, highlights the distinction between mere employment and high-quality labor. According to the International Labour Organization (ILO), decent work is defined as productive employment for both men and women conducted under conditions of freedom, equity, security, and human dignity.

Key pillars of decent work include fair income, workplace safety, social protection for workers and their families, equal opportunities, and the possibility for personal development. It also encompasses the right to organize, freedom of association, and collective bargaining.

Decent work is a central component of the United Nations 2030 Agenda, specifically Sustainable Development Goal 8, which aims to promote inclusive economic growth and full, productive employment for all, including youth and persons with disabilities. The European Commission also emphasizes that employment quality must include adequate remuneration and social protection alongside job quantity.
