World Economic Forum employee detained over alleged Trump assassination plot

During the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos in January 2026, Swiss authorities investigated an alleged assassination plot targeting US President Donald Trump. The investigation was triggered by an anonymous email sent to the US Embassy in Bern, which warned of an ‘urgent threat’ to the President's life.

The email claimed that a WEF employee was an Iranian agent coordinating an operation to murder the President during his visit to Davos. Following the warning, the Swiss Federal Prosecutor's Office opened proceedings regarding the preparation of a murder and took immediate action.

Investigators detained a WEF employee of Iranian origin working in the IT department in Geneva. The woman, who had been a citizen of a Western country for several years and had been employed by the WEF for approximately three and a half months, was interrogated for several hours. However, reports indicate she was subsequently released.
