World Economic Forum warns 120 years needed for gender equality

The World Economic Forum (WEF) warns that at the current rate of progress, it will take 120 years to achieve global gender equality. The organization's annual gender gap report indicates that progress has stalled, with the COVID-19 pandemic serving as a major turning point that led to measurable setbacks.

In a sample of 39 economies, women hold only about 19 percent of top executive and board positions. The report also highlights a significant lack of female representation in the artificial intelligence sector, spanning from infrastructure to application development. In politics, the number of women in ministerial roles has declined, and the proportion of women leading influential ministries has remained stagnant since 2008.

In the WEF rankings, Iceland maintains the top position with a score of 93 percent. Germany ranks 9th with a score of 81.7 percent. Austria has seen a decline, falling seven places to rank 56th.
