World Food Programme launches aid in Aguelhoc, Mali

In Aguelhoc, located in the Kidal region of Mali, the World Food Programme (WFP) has launched a food voucher distribution operation to address critical food insecurity. The first phase of this initiative has benefited approximately 8,000 people, representing about 1,500 households, including both displaced persons and the host families supporting them.

The vouchers allow families to purchase food directly from local merchants based on their specific needs. This intervention follows a multisectoral assessment revealing that three out of four households are unable to eat adequately, and 99% of surveyed households reported a significant decline in purchasing power. The WFP is prioritizing pregnant or breastfeeding women and young children due to severe nutritional conditions and widespread acute malnutrition in the area.
