World Forestry Guard Day Recognized on July 31

July 31 is observed internationally as World Forestry Guard Day, a commemoration launched in 1998 to honour the forestry guards who protect forests, national parks and other natural reserves. The day highlights the essential role of these agents in monitoring biodiversity, preventing illegal logging, poaching and wildlife trafficking, and curbing forest fires, especially as climate change intensifies droughts and fire risks.

The observance stresses that effective forest protection also depends on community involvement, stricter enforcement of environmental regulations and the provision of modern tools and training for the guards. While the celebration is global, it is marked in countries such as Argentina, where local media draw attention to the profession’s contribution to safeguarding the nation’s ecosystems.
