World Friendship Day origins traced to Paraguayan doctor Dr. Ramon Artemio Bracho

World Friendship Day began in 1958 when Paraguayan physician Dr. Ramón Artemio Bracho suggested a dedicated day for friends during a dinner in the riverside town of Puerto Pinasco. He and his companions founded the World Friendship Crusade to promote friendship across cultures and nations.

The movement grew quietly for decades until the United Nations proclaimed July 30 as International Friendship Day in 2011. Celebrations now vary worldwide; for example, India observes the holiday on the first Sunday of August, while other regions follow the UN‑designated date.
