World Grandparents Day marked by masses and community events across Spain, Italy, Argentina and Poland

July 26 is observed as World Grandparents Day (also World Day of Grandparents and Older Persons). Catholic churches and community groups in several countries held special liturgies, processions and prayers honoring Saint Joachim and Saint Anne, the grandparents of the Virgin Mary. In Castellón, Spain, a mass, procession and a communal lunch were organized for seniors and their families. In Croatia, the Arboretum Opeka hosted a gathering of retirees with music and refreshments. Italian associations in Siracusa highlighted the problem of elderly loneliness and called for local support networks. Argentine media described the national focus on grandparents and the linked Saint Ana celebration. Numerous Polish parishes (e.g., in Bielsk Podlaski, Częstochowa, Trzebinia) incorporated the day into Sunday masses, blessed vehicles, and offered indulgences, while also urging care for the elderly. Across the regions, the events combined religious observance with social activities aimed at recognizing elders’ contributions and reducing isolation.
