Kinh Thien Palace reconstruction approved at Thang Long Imperial Citadel
The UNESCO World Heritage Committee has granted unprecedented approval for the reconstruction of Kinh Thien Palace within the core zone of the Thang Long Imperial Citadel in Hanoi, Vietnam. This decision marks the first time in nearly 55 years of the World Heritage Convention that the Committee has agreed to change the status of a site within a core heritage zone.
Following 15 years of research and international cooperation, the move aims to restore a central symbol of Vietnamese political power that served as the primary palace for the Le Dynasty. The reconstruction process has been supported by UNESCO, ICOMOS, and various international experts, who praised Vietnam’s scientific approach and adherence to international heritage commitments.
To mark this milestone, an exhibition has opened at the Thang Long Imperial Citadel. The exhibition features archaeological remains, scientific research findings, and a reconstruction model of the palace, utilizing technology to provide visitors with interactive experiences of the historical site.
