World Maritime Day 2026 highlights maritime enforcement and industry growth

World Maritime Day 2026, themed ‘From Policy to Practice: Powering Maritime Excellence’, highlights a global shift toward enforcing maritime regulations and improving operational standards.

In Sri Lanka, Colombo Dockyard PLC (CDPLC) is emphasizing its role in international shipbuilding and repair. The company has expanded from a national facility into a global provider of heavy and offshore engineering, recently completing specialized cable-laying vessels for clients in Japan and France, and developing eco-friendly bulk carriers with hybrid propulsion for Norway.

In Pakistan, the focus has shifted toward practical maritime implementation. Following coordinated efforts by the Pakistan Navy and other stakeholders, the Lloyd’s Market Association’s Joint War Committee removed Pakistan from its list of war-zone countries in July 2026. This removal, which ended a designation held since 2001, has led to decreased war-risk premiums and improved competitiveness for ports in Karachi, Port Qasim, and Gwadar.
