World Mission Sunday focuses on Madagascar poverty relief
World Mission Sunday, the Catholic Church’s largest global solidarity campaign, will take place on October 25. This year, the initiative focuses on Madagascar, one of the world’s poorest nations, where recurring droughts, cyclones, and inadequate infrastructure contribute to widespread hunger and malnutrition.
In Germany, the Diocese of Fulda and missio Aachen are calling for donations to support social and pastoral work in impoverished regions across Africa, Asia, and Oceania. Bishop Karlheinz Diez emphasized that the collection serves as a sign of global connectedness and shared responsibility in an era of rising nationalism.
To highlight the mission, guests from Madagascar are participating in approximately 200 events across Germany to share stories of local challenges and solutions. These include efforts in the Archdiocese of Toliara and Toamasina to provide aid, pastoral care, and educational opportunities for youth facing extreme poverty.
