Hessian Summer Festival Audiences Remain Strong Amid Heat
Despite unusually high temperatures, the major summer festivals in Hesse – the Bad Hersfeld Festspiele, the Bad Vilbel Festival and the Hanau Grimm Festspiele – reported solid attendance. At Bad Hersfeld the tent roof for the premiere of the play “Parzival” was removed because of the heat, yet the audience response stayed strong. Bad Vilbel has sold roughly 108,000 tickets for the current season, with about 70,000 visitors already having toured the historic water‑castle venue. In Hanau eight shows were cancelled because of the heat, but overall visitor numbers remained comparable to the previous year. Festival organisers have expanded spray‑mist systems and added extra shade structures, reporting that the heat has so far had little impact on audience turnout.
