Blizzard fires WoW game master after cheating scandal in Mythic+ dungeon
A Blizzard employee with game‑master (GM) privileges used a developer command, known as “Area Death” or “Kill Command”, to instantly kill two bosses during a high‑level Mythic+ run (level +23) in World of Warcraft. The player admitted on a Twitch stream that they asked a friend who worked at Blizzard to "one‑shot" a boss with 20 million health. Combat logs posted on Reddit showed the unauthorized instant kills, and another log later revealed a second similar kill.
Blizzard investigated the incident, confirmed it was the action of a single employee in violation of its Code of Conduct, and terminated the employee’s employment. The company also said it will take action against the player accounts that were complicit. Blizzard emphasized that internal GM tools are logged, used only for testing or urgent fixes, and that this case was an isolated incident. The community reacted with outrage and speculation about possible wider abuse.
The scandal was reported by gaming outlets in Poland, Germany and the United Kingdom, prompting a broader discussion about fairness and oversight in competitive gameplay.
