World of Warcraft Patch 12.1 Introduces Season 2, New Raid and Community Prize Distribution
Blizzard Entertainment released World of Warcraft Patch 12.1, titled “Curse of Ula’tek,” on 11 August 2026. A week later the game entered Season 2 of the Midnight expansion, opening the new raid “Giftiger Abgrund” (Toxic Abyss) on all difficulty levels and launching a fresh Mythic Plus rotation featuring eight dungeons, including the Altar of Traps. Analysis of over 777 000 Mythic Plus runs identified Frost Death Knights as the top single‑target DPS class in the raid, with Unholy Death Knights excelling at area damage in dungeons, while Demonology Warlocks provided strong sustained AoE damage.
Meanwhile, NetEase’s Chinese WoW operator Thunderfire Games announced that the accumulated “Race to World First” prize pool – which had grown to about 2.2 million yuan (≈ 282 000 EUR) after Chinese guilds failed to claim the top spot – will be redistributed to the community. Thirty members from the fifty best Chinese guilds will receive individual keepsakes engraved with their characters and guild names, shifting the incentive from a single winning guild to a broader player base.
