World Power Battery Conference opens in Yibin, China

The 2026 World Power Battery Conference commenced on September 3 in Yibin, Sichuan Province, China. The event focuses on industry policies, cutting-edge technologies, energy storage, and battery recycling to foster international industrial collaboration.

Data presented at the conference highlighted significant advancements in lithium-powered battery technology, noting that driving ranges have increased from 100 kilometers to 1,000 kilometers, while charging times have been reduced to approximately 10 minutes. Additionally, battery costs have decreased by 90%, and energy storage battery durability has risen from 300 to 1,500 charge cycles.

Eight new power battery technologies for the 2025–2026 period were unveiled, including hybrid solid-liquid batteries with a specific energy of 350 Wh/kg and large-capacity, high-safety energy storage batteries. Ouyang Minggao, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, identified battery safety across the entire lifecycle as a primary development trend.
