World Quest travel game terminates service due to PHP vulnerability

The travel-themed game World Quest announced the immediate termination of its service on October 21, 2026. The decision follows the discovery of critical vulnerabilities in PHP, the programming language used by the game's servers.

Operators explained that because the game relies on an outdated system, they are unable to implement sufficient security measures to mitigate the risks. The shutdown was prioritized to protect user information. The vulnerabilities in question are described as being at an ‘emergency’ level, potentially allowing remote attackers to execute arbitrary code without authentication.

Originally released in 2011, World Quest allowed users to virtually visit over 1,000 cities across 100 countries. After an initial service end in 2019, it was revived in May 2020 to provide virtual travel experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic.
