World Rabies Day 2026 theme announced as Stronger Together
The 2026 theme for World Rabies Day has been announced as “Stronger Together.” Selected by the Global Alliance for Rabies Control (GARC) with support from the World Health Organization and the United Against Rabies Forum, the theme emphasizes that rabies elimination requires coordinated, collective action across multiple sectors.
Effective control necessitates cooperation between animal and human health systems. This includes veterinary professionals managing animal vaccinations, healthcare workers providing rapid treatment, and governments implementing supportive policies. Communities and educators also play vital roles in promoting public awareness and responsible animal care.
In regions like Canada, health officials are using the upcoming observance to advise small farmers on protecting livestock, pets, and families. Because rural living increases interaction with wildlife species such as bats, skunks, foxes, and raccoons, experts recommend maintaining current vaccinations for companion animals and being vigilant about wildlife proximity to barns and livestock.
