World Sailing Inclusion Championships host inaugural wingfoil event
The second day of the World Sailing Inclusion Championships in Portimão, Portugal, featured competitive racing and personal milestones across various disciplines. A highlight of the event was the inaugural Inclusive Wingfoil demonstration, which showcased athletes navigating adaptive equipment and techniques.
Australian athlete Simon Bibby, who uses a wheelchair following a spinal cord injury in 2020, competed in the seated wing foiling event. Bibby, who previously competed in the Hansa 303 class, moved into wing foiling to pursue higher speeds. He currently holds second place overall in the event.
France’s Guillaume Colin emerged as a frontrunner in the wingfoil competition, winning three of the four races held on the second day. The event continues to highlight the development of adaptive sailing disciplines for athletes from both established and first-time participating nations.
