World Sindhi Congress raises Sindh territorial concerns at UNHRC
During the 63rd session of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) in Geneva, Hafeezan Wadhio, an executive committee member of the World Sindhi Congress (WSC), called for international attention regarding the territorial status of Sindh.
Wadhio raised concerns over proposals to create new administrative units or provinces, arguing that such moves could fragment Sindh’s historically recognized territory. She stated that while no formal constitutional decision to divide the region has been enacted, the situation requires preventive monitoring to avoid irreversible harm to the Sindhi people’s rights to self-determination, political participation, and cultural survival.
Wadhio also highlighted concerns regarding human rights violations and the loss of control over natural resources. She referenced historical precedents, noting that Karachi was removed from provincial authority following the creation of Pakistan and that Sindh was previously administered under the One Unit scheme for 15 years.
