World Space Week 2026 focuses on the Rocket Revolution

World Space Week 2026 is being observed from October 4 to 10 under the theme ‘Rocket Revolution’. Established by the United Nations in 1999, the annual event commemorates the launch of Sputnik 1 on October 4, 1957, and the entry into force of the Outer Space Treaty on October 10, 1967.

This year's theme focuses on the technological shift toward reusable rockets, the rise of commercial space actors, and the reduction of launch costs. The transition from government-led programs to a diverse ecosystem involving private companies like SpaceX, startups, and universities is a central focus. This evolution has significantly increased the frequency of missions and lowered barriers to orbital access.

Global celebrations include the 77th International Astronautical Congress in Antalya, Turkey, and various educational activities in over 100 countries. The event aims to promote STEM education and highlight how space technology impacts daily life on Earth, including satellite internet and Earth observation.
