World Stroke Day initiatives launched in Spain

In observance of World Stroke Day on October 29, various health and fitness initiatives are being held in Spain to raise awareness about cerebrovascular disease.

In Vigo, Centaurus Box and the neurorehabilitation center NEUREM organized an adapted functional training session. The event aimed to demonstrate how physical activity can serve as a tool for social inclusion and health for individuals living with the aftereffects of a stroke, emphasizing personalized exercise that adjusts to individual mobility and needs.

Additionally, the Hospital Universitario Nuestra Señora del Rosario has scheduled free risk factor evaluations on October 29. The screening includes measuring blood pressure, oxygen saturation, heart rate, glucose levels, and performing non-invasive Doppler ultrasounds to evaluate blood flow in the neck arteries.

Medical experts emphasize the urgency of stroke treatment, noting that every minute delayed results in the loss of approximately 1.9 million neurons. In Spain, more than 300 new stroke cases are recorded daily, making it a leading cause of death and disability.
