World Surf League removes Abu Dhabi Pro from championship tour

The World Surf League (WSL) has removed the Abu Dhabi Pro from this year’s championship tour calendar. The decision was driven by severe logistical challenges, including flight restrictions in the region caused by geopolitical instability and the conflict between the United States and Iran.

Executive Director Ryan Crosby stated that the organization explored all options to keep the event on the schedule, but current conditions made it impossible to proceed. The event had previously been rescheduled from October to late November in an attempt to maintain its place in the 2025/2026 season, but safety and travel uncertainties ultimately forced the cancellation.

As a result, the world circuit will proceed with 12 stages. The technical format remains unchanged, allowing athletes to discard three lowest results. The upcoming Trestles event in California will determine the top surfers advancing to the post-season stages in Portugal and the Philippines, before the final Pipe Masters in Hawaii.
