World Cravat Day celebrated across Croatia and Herzegovina
World Cravat Day was observed on October 18 with various cultural activities across Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Austria. The day celebrates the historical connection between Croatian soldiers and the modern necktie, which evolved from 17th-century military scarves that gained popularity at the French court of Louis XIV.
In Zagreb, Academia Cravatica organized ceremonies including a parade and changing of the guard by the Cravat Regiment. Symbolic red cravats were tied to monuments dedicated to Ban Josip Jelačić and Franjo Tuđman. In Slavonski Brod, a themed tourist tour explored the history of the garment and its connection to local heritage.
In Herzegovina, the HKZ Troplet association decorated numerous monuments in Mostar, Ljubuški, Stolac, Čapljina, and other locations with cravats and bows. In Austria, students at the Neuberg primary school participated by making paper cravats to honor the Croatian cultural heritage.
