World Tourism Day initiatives launched in South Africa and Ghana

Various nations are marking World Tourism Day on September 27, 2026, with initiatives focused on domestic travel and digital integration.

In South Africa, the Department of Tourism and the Limpopo Provincial Government will host celebrations at the Legend Golf & Safari Resort in the Waterberg District. Under the theme “Growing South Africa's Tourism Sector in the Digital Era,” the event aims to highlight how artificial intelligence and digital technologies can improve visitor experiences and destination management. Limpopo has been designated as the province of focus for Tourism Month 2026.

In Ghana, the domestic tourism movement Do Ghana, initiated by WangoWango, is launching “The Great Ghana Day Out.” Developed with Joy FM and Joy Prime, the initiative encourages citizens to explore local landscapes, cultures, and historic sites. The program is intended to run through Ghana’s 70th Independence anniversary in 2027, promoting the idea that domestic travel supports local enterprises and community connections.
