Heavy rains cause flooding and fatalities across Mexico and Cuba

Heavy rainfall across Mexico and Cuba has caused widespread flooding, infrastructure damage, and fatalities. In Chihuahua, the State Civil Protection Coordination reported significant rainfall, including 16.4 mm in Manuel Benavides. The storms resulted in floods, wall collapses, and sinkholes. Tragically, two deaths were reported: one person was electrocuted in Ciudad Juárez, and a young man was found dead after being swept away by a river in Parral.

In Tamaulipas, the southern region faced severe impacts. In Ciudad Madero, flooding blocked access to the new IMSS Bienestar hospital, requiring the State Guard to evacuate medical personnel. The activation of Plan Marina has facilitated evacuations in high-risk neighborhoods like Talleres and Hidalgo Oriente. Residents in the Candelario Garza colony reported water levels up to one meter inside homes, leading to protests on Avenida Tamaulipas. Additionally, flooding in the area caused sightings of large crocodiles in urban streets.

In Nayarit, Hurricane Polo's rains caused flooding and power outages in Bahía de Banderas, though local authorities reported that river levels remained stable. Meanwhile, in Cuba, intense rains flooded homes and businesses in Havana's Centro Habana and La Victoria districts, with water reaching knee height in several streets and partially submerging vehicles.
