World Trade Center beam honored at Boston memorial

The Tunnel to Towers ‘Steel Across America’ tour arrived at the Massachusetts Fallen Heroes Memorial in Boston’s Seaport on Wednesday. The tour brought a preserved 21-foot, 16,900-pound steel beam recovered from the World Trade Center’s South Tower to honor fallen heroes.

As part of a nationwide journey that began in May, the artifact is scheduled to conclude its tour in New York City shortly after the anniversary of the September 11 attacks. The event drew local first responders and law enforcement officers for a period of reflection.

Dan Magoon, executive director of Massachusetts Fallen Heroes, noted the personal significance of the tour for veterans and first responders as the 25th anniversary of 9/11 approaches. Also in attendance was Mike Eruzione, captain of the 1980 U.S. Olympic hockey team, who used the occasion to remember friends lost in the terrorist attacks.
