World Vision México launches WASH 2026-2030 water strategy

World Vision México has introduced its National WASH 2026-2030 Strategy, an initiative aimed at providing sustainable access to safe water, sanitation, and hygiene for more than 270,000 people. The plan focuses on vulnerable communities, specifically prioritizing children and adolescents.

The organization intends to mobilize over $7 million to install and rehabilitate infrastructure in 150 educational centers and more than 100 community spaces. Key actions include rainwater harvesting, infrastructure repair, and community training on water use and hygiene habits. The strategy will be implemented across nine Mexican states: Estado de México, San Luis Potosí, Veracruz, Oaxaca, Guerrero, Chiapas, Chihuahua, Baja California, and Baja California Sur.

The initiative addresses significant regional inequalities and water scarcity. While national piped water coverage is high, rural areas face much lower access, with states like Chiapas and Oaxaca reporting coverage near 50%. Additionally, the plan responds to environmental pressures, such as droughts and floods, and seeks to strengthen local water committees and coordination with public institutions to ensure long-term resource management.
