World WWII Victory Day marks 81st anniversary with ceremonies in Brazil and France

On May 8, Brazil commemorated the 81st anniversary of Victory Day with a military ceremony at the headquarters of the 14th Motorized Infantry Brigade in Florianópolis. Civil and military officials, along with representatives of local society, gathered to honor the Brazilian Expeditionary Force and the broader Allied victory. Roberto Amaral, president of the Grupo SCC, received a formal recognition from the Brazilian Army for his organization’s support of the armed forces.

In Paris, France observed the same anniversary with a series of high‑profile events led by President Emmanuel Macron. A wreath‑laying ceremony took place at the Arc de Triomphe, followed by a parade along the Champs‑Élysées featuring troops of the French Army and a rendition of the national anthem. Security measures included road closures and the suspension of public access to nearby metro stations. Both nations used the day to remember the defeat of Nazi Germany and to reinforce historic ties to the Allied effort of 1945.
