World Youth Fishing Championships held in Montceau-les-Mines, France

The World Youth Fishing Championships (U25 category) took place in Montceau-les-Mines on 7–8 August, with training sessions on 5–6 August and competition rounds on both days. Eleven national delegations – including England, Belgium, Croatia, Spain, Hungary, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, the Czech Republic and France – competed at the Plessis lake venue, followed by a prize‑giving ceremony at the Embarcadère.

The opening ceremony highlighted the link between sport and environmental stewardship. Mayor Isabelle Louis stressed that “performance cannot exist without respect for the environment,” while deputy Lionel Duparay called fishing “a language of biodiversity respect.” Federation president Claude Roustan warned that healthy waterways are essential for fish and for the sport, urging participants to act as “sentinels of the rivers.”
