WorldFish targets 25,000 women and youth in Nigeria and Tanzania fisheries

WorldFish, in partnership with Trademark Africa and the Mastercard Foundation, has launched an initiative to support 25,000 women and youth in the fishery and aquaculture sectors of Nigeria and Tanzania.

The project aims to increase sector competitiveness by focusing on job creation, climate-smart practices, and the reduction of post-harvest losses. Dr. Charles Iyangbe, WorldFish Country Representative in Nigeria, stated that the program seeks to address production costs and socio-economic barriers to make aquatic foods more affordable and accessible.

Key thematic areas for the intervention include innovation in the feed sector, digitalization, access to finance, and supporting the value chain. In Nigeria, the project is expected to span six states, utilizing coastal farmers’ organizations to drive growth.
