WorldSBK: MGM Optical Express Racing exits championship
MGM Optical Express Racing has announced its departure from the World Superbike Championship (WorldSBK) following the conclusion of the 2026 season. The independent team competed for six seasons, having debuted in 2020 with Yamaha before moving to BMW (2021–2024), and Ducati (2025–2026).
During its tenure, the team achieved several podiums, including results with Garrett Gerloff and Tarran Mackenzie. Mackenzie recently secured a career-best fourth place at Phillip Island. Loris Baz served as a substitute rider during the team's final races.
Team manager Michael Galinski noted that while the departure is met with melancholy, the team is proud of demonstrating that a transition from the IDM to the World Championship level is possible. He acknowledged the significant financial effort required to compete at this level.
