WorldSkills Competition held in Shanghai
The 48th WorldSkills Competition (WSC2026) took place in Shanghai, bringing together approximately 1,400 competitors from 68 countries. The event, often referred to as the ‘Skills Olympics’, features contestants competing across more than 60 different skill categories to determine gold, silver, and bronze medalists.
Among the participants was Team UK, which included Scottish professionals Stuart Lyons and Charlie Priestley, competing in the IT Network Systems Administration category. The UK delegation received support from Minister for Skills Jacqui Smith. The competition included diverse disciplines ranging from robotics and renewable energy to plumbing and painting.
The event featured an opening ceremony attended by Premier Li and was supported by official partner Pearson. The competition concluded on Sunday, September 27th, with an expected attendance of over 600,000 spectators throughout the event.
