WorldSkills Shanghai hosts international vocational skills competition

The WorldSkills competition in Shanghai has brought together approximately 1,400 young skilled workers from over 70 countries to compete in various vocational disciplines.

Denmark sent a team of 15 participants competing in 13 different trades, including CNC milling, masonry, furniture making, carpentry, and hotel reception. Nanna Højlund, Vice Chair of the FH, noted the high level of skill displayed by the youth, contrasting it with the ongoing challenge of skilled labor shortages in Denmark and calling for increased corporate responsibility in providing apprenticeships.

Sweden also saw strong performances from its automotive specialists. Participants in vehicle damage technology, car painting, passenger car technology, and mechanical engineering competed against intense international field. Nils Holm and Filip Hult received Medals for Excellence for their performances. Thomas Ericsson of Transportföretagen highlighted the importance of these competitions in addressing the automotive industry's need for new talent amidst a major generational shift and the rise of electrification and digitalization.
