Wormer apartment complex fire involves solar panels

A fire broke out on the roof of an apartment complex on Spatterstraat in Wormer on Sunday afternoon, October 4. The fire was discovered when flames were seen emerging from beneath solar panels, prompting an escalation to a ‘large fire’ status.

Emergency services, including a drone and a high-lift vehicle from Velsen, responded to the scene. The ground and top floors of the building were evacuated, with residents being sheltered at a nearby petting zoo. While most residents were able to return home by late afternoon, two households remain temporarily displaced due to the damage.

As a precaution, all solar panels from the roof were removed, which has made determining the exact cause of the fire impossible. The solar installation and its cabling were disconnected due to damage. The housing corporation, Wormerwonen, stated that they are assessing the damage and conducting repairs, emphasizing that resident safety is their priority.
