Worms Backfischfest Kicks Off August 29 with Nine-Day Riverside Celebration
The Worms Backfischfest opens on Saturday, 29 August 2026 and runs through 6 September, offering one of the largest wine and folk festivals along the Rhine. The nine‑day program features amusement rides, a grand parade, the traditional fisher‑spear duel, and a fireworks display to close the event. Attendees can sample around 300 regional wines and spirits in the Wonnegau wine cellar.
The opening ceremony takes place on the market square before the Rhein‑Pfalz Minister‑President Gordon Schnieder and Mayor Adolf Kessel hand over the ceremonial “Bojemääschter vun de Fischerwääd”. Mayor Stephanie Lohr highlighted the festival’s role in Worms’ identity, thanking volunteers and inviting guests from near and far to celebrate the city’s hospitality.
