Worms Green Party proposes tree protection ordinance

The Bündnis 90/Die Grünen faction in Worms has submitted a motion for a tree protection ordinance to the city council. The proposal, which is scheduled for discussion at the September 30, 2026, council meeting, aims to provide effective and practical protection for established trees that are vital for the city's climate.

Faction leader Anna Biegler emphasized that while planting new trees is necessary, they cannot immediately replace the ecological and cooling benefits of mature trees. The ordinance seeks to protect existing vegetation, particularly on private property, to help the city adapt to climate change through shade, evaporation cooling, and improved air quality.
