Worms Riverside Housing Project Sparks CDU Criticism

Private investors led by architect Jörg Edgar Deibert plan a €40 million residential development on a former 2.4‑hectare industrial site in the Rheindürkheim district of Worms. The venture, undertaken by Wohnen am Rhein GmbH & Co. KG, envisions four four‑storey buildings with penthouse units and apartments ranging from 70 to 85 sqm. A green noise‑reduction wall is slated for the nearby federal road B9, and clearing of the site began in January, although only a building inquiry—not a formal application—has been submitted.

The local CDU branch, represented by Ortsvorsteher Björn Krämer, condemned the project, accusing the municipality of bypassing the district council and criticizing the early start of earth‑moving works. The party also linked the dispute to broader frustrations over the "Gleisdreieck" redevelopment, alleging that council recommendations were ignored.
