Worms: The Director's Cut receives free expansion for 30th anniversary
To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Worms series, creator Andy Davidson has released a free digital expansion for the Amiga-exclusive title, Worms: The Director's Cut.
The expansion pack was developed in collaboration with the Amiga demoscene and includes over 40 custom levels, more than 50 new voice sample packs, new terrain types, and new teams. Notable features include a level inspired by the classic game Ruff 'N Tumble and another inspired by the work of legendary indie developer Jeff Minter of Llamasoft.
In addition to the content, the release includes an anniversary music album featuring nine new tracks inspired by the original theme by Bjørne Lynne. A dedicated website, Worm.net, provides an online tool for players to design two-layer maps. While the expansion is designed for the Amiga platform, Davidson noted it should function well with emulators for those without original hardware.
